One of the top kitchen remodeling trends: more functional cabinets

We all want a functional, beautiful, inviting kitchen, but there are a lot of ways to accomplish that goal. Throughout this year, Innovative Kitchen and Bath will be sharing our top kitchen remodeling trends. We want to give you ideas and inspiration as you consider your next kitchen remodeling project.

Kitchen Remodeling Trends: Smart Kitchens

Technology has a central place in the kitchen, and it’s far beyond fancy appliances with lots of buttons. Now technology can be integrated into virtually every function and appliance in the kitchen. When tech is built right into DNA of the kitchen, we call that a smart kitchen.

Whether you’re starting from the ground up or retrofitting sensors and smart gadgets to an older kitchen, there are a huge number of options available to the homeowner.

You might consider easy add-ons like a motion sensor-equipped kitchen faucet that turns on when it senses the presence of hands underneath. As far as appliances, we’re now far beyond the days of the simple programmable coffee maker. Refrigerators can now alert you when groceries are running low. There’s even a device that monitors your eggs and will alert you when they are going bad. And of course, your lighting systems can now be controlled by your tablet or smart phone.

Technology in the kitchen will continue to grow in the coming years. We expect to see even more devices, gadgets, and improvements that will make our lives easier and more convenient.

Kitchen Remodeling Trends: Clever Cabinetry Storage Solutions

Kitchen cabinets can be so frustrating to actually use. There’s often a lot of wasted space. The available space is frequently too small for some of your larger items, or too large for a collection of smaller items. Efficient and proper organization can be a chore.

To address this problem, homeowners are turning to better storage solutions inside the cabinetry. We’re seeing appliance “garages” for small appliances, pull-out sections for spices or wine, built-in dividers for cutlery and utensils, and multi-level slide out sections for taller areas. Integrating wastebasket cabinets for trash and recyclables is also a big trend – eliminating what’s often an ugly kitchen eyesore and reducing clutter.

The on-trend kitchen should be an easy place to store foods, drinks, appliances, and all the paraphernalia that comes along with our busy lives. We expect that to only grow in the coming years.
